About the artist
Peter Kingston
1943-2021, Sydney
Renowned Australian landscape painter, Peter Kingston, received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New South Wales in 1965 and tutored in architecture at the University of Sydney. He has held over 35 solo exhibitions since 1978 as far afield as New York, London and Los Angeles.
Like many southern Australian painters, Kingston was drawn to Far North Queensland, capturing many scenes of landscapes, life and iconic buildings of Cairns and Kuranda. Kingston was also a staunch supporter of the ‘Save Hinchinbrook’ campaign of 2005. Creating works and organising auctions “to protect and conserve World Heritage-listed Hinchinbrook Island and Channel from the impacts of coastal development”.
