About the artist

Ninney Murray

Ninney Murray is based in the Jumban Aboriginal Community of the Murray Upper area, North-West of Cardwell. Ninney is an accomplished weaver, painter and ceramicist. She weaves Jawun, Barrajingal, Gundala and Mindi baskets and is one of the few artists that still constructs Wungarr (eel traps). She was taught to weave by her aunty.

Ninney's works capture the stories of her elders and her connection to home and family. Her works are held in many private and institutional collections, including the Queensland Art Gallery.
