Heather Wunjarra Koowootha was born in Yarrabah, Queensland, in 1966. She now lives and works in Cairns, Queensland. Heather’s works are inspired by teachings passed onto her from her mother’s culture, from the Yidinji people of Yarrabah, Queensland, and from her father’s culture, from the Wik Mungkan people of Aurukun, Queensland.
Heather's illustrations carry important knowledge associated with the medicinal and ritual uses of plants in birth, women’s business, marriage, death and other important ceremonies of the Yidinji and Wik Mungkan peoples.
