Robyn Djunginy was born in 1947 to father, acclaimed artist, Ngukmarmar and sister to artists Milpurrurru and Charlie Djurritjni. Djunginy is renowned for her contribution to contemporary Indigenous art, being one of the first Ramingining women to showcase her weaving skills on a global scale.
The bottle motif is in reference to Djunginy's Mother's Group Marrangu Djinang, where the bottles, shaped like beehives, represent the honey story in Ramingining, Central Arnhem Land.
Bula’bula Arts Aboriginal Corporation is ‘the cultural heart’ of Ramingining community, situated in northeast Arnhem Land and surrounded by the Arafura wetlands. It is an Aboriginal owned and governed, not-for-profit organisation with its core objective being to preserve and foster Yolngu culture.
Purchase of fabric directly supports the artist.
